Iranian gov't prioritizes diplomacy of looking at Asia: FM

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that looking at Asia is one of the main priorities of the 13th government's foreign policy.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry in Tehran on Saturday.

The Iranian foreign minister, meantime, said that Sri Lanka's upcoming chairmanship of the Indian Ocean Regional Cooperation Union is an important opportunity to strengthen the cooperation between Iran and other Asian countries.

Amirabdollahian and Sabry discussed bilateral, regional and international issues of interest to both parties.

Amir Abdollahian voiced Iran's readiness for the comprehensive development of cooperation with Sri Lanka, including the activation of the joint economic commission, the joint consular and tourism committee, and the increase of cooperation in regional and international organizations, and emphasized the common political will to expand cultural and tourism cooperation.

He emphasized scientific, academic, new technologies and using the capacity of knowledge-based companies.

The Iranian foreign minister also enumerated the capabilities of Iran in the field of new technologies and the capabilities of Iranian knowledge-based companies, and emphasized the export of technical and engineering services, technologies and medical equipment.

Amir Abdollahian pointed out that looking at Asia is one of the main priorities of the foreign policy of the 13th government.

The Sri Lankan foreign minister, for his part, also expressed his satisfaction with his presence in our country, and stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite all the pressures, enmities, and provocations, has continued its peaceful agenda and this flexibility and strength of the Iranian people in the field Technology, education and industrial development deserve congratulations.

He called Sri Lanka the gateway to South and East Asia and called and mutual cooperation with Iran an opportunity for Iran to play a greater role, and Iran's stronger relations with the population of one billion and eight hundred million people of the Indian subcontinent.

In today's negotiations, the Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Sri Lanka agreed to exchange the prisoners of the two countries' nationals, including those convicted and accused who are awaiting trial, between the two countries.
